



The quartz sand filter (formally known as a shallow medium filter) is a pressure-driven physical filtration device that uses quartz sand as the core filter medium. It is widely applied in the front-end pretreatment of water treatment systems, efficiently removing suspended solids, sediment, colloids, rust, and some microorganisms from water. It reduces water turbidity and provides stable, qualified influent water quality for subsequent processes such as reverse osmosis and ion exchange.

Large particulate impurities are trapped by the fine sand on the surface layer, while tiny particles are captured in the pores of the deep filter media through physical adsorption and sedimentation. The filter layer automatically forms a gradient structure ("loose at the top, dense at the bottom"), adapting to different influent conditions for stable filtration performance.
Backwashing Phase: When the filter media is saturated with trapped impurities and the pressure difference between the inlet and outlet exceeds the standard, the device automatically triggers the backwashing procedure. Water flows upward in the reverse direction to flush the filter bed, discharging the impurities trapped in the filter media pores along with wastewater. This restores the filtration performance of the media, enabling cyclic use with low water consumption.
Rinsing Phase: After backwashing, the filter media is allowed to settle and stratify naturally for a short period. Forward water flow is then used to rinse the filter, removing residual turbid water inside the tank. The device returns to its normal filtration state, achieving fully automatic cyclic operation.
